The Mark III was a top-loaded air rifle with a fixed barrel and used underlever cocking. It was only made in.177 and.22 calibres. Webley Hurricane.22 air pistol Webley continues to manufacture air pistols in.22 (5.5 mm) and.177 (4.5 mm) calibre, and air rifles in.22.177 and.25 (6.35 mm) calibre. The gun only says Webley & Scott on the breech block with a Hatsan style serial number. Nowhere on the gun does it say where it was made. My chrony is still MIA, but if memory serves me, this gun is pushing 7.9s at around 930fps.it's a Tommy. I Have a Webley 455 MK IV serial No 77082. The records I keep reading in diffrent places indicate that the Lowest known serial number for a MK VI is 77503 which means mine is 421 before the lowest known. I would think that there marks out there that are older or younger than. From the ribbing on the fore end and the serial number it looks like a late series 3 mk3, so you are looking at mid to late 1950s (series three serial numbers run from 6001 to around 24'297) the engraving on the pistol grip though is confusing me as it looks like the De-luxe stock but the ribbing on the fore end aren't.
Webley Mk3 Air Rifle Serial Numbers
Webley volume production revolvers started to appear around 1853 as the Webley Longspur. From then on Webley revolvers developed and evolved to meet market requirements. Often many different models in many different calibres were produced at the same time. Because of this complex numbers of guns it is difficult to date revolvers, as the production records are no longer in our possession.
However some manufacturing dates and information are available for a fee from: www.armsresearch.co.uk To date a gun they will need the serial number. Webley are unable to give valuations. For further information we suggest the book Webley Revolvers by Gordon Bruce and Christian ReinhartMarket rasen New to forum, bought a Mk3 Webley under lever air rifle today. Its a.177 in reasonable condition. The serial number stamped on the underside of the cocking lever is 702. I have researched and my guess is this is a really early gun and as they were 1st made in 1946/47 could it be from the 1st year. At JC Militaria we stock a number of Air Weapons. The top of the air chamber is correctly marked with the Webley name and Birmingham address together with 'The Webley Mark 3' model detail (illustrated). The rifle is serial number '47545' which is stamped on the underside of the barrel and repeated on the lever.
Webley started producing Air Pistols in 1924 and today still produce Air Pistols to the same design principle (see below the Tempest) The early Air Pistols were marked with serial numbers up to the beginning of World War 2. Later Pistols were the marked with usually a threedigit batch number. This was to identify parts that were fitted to specific guns has they were processed round the factory. No Air Pistols were produced 1940-1945. Guns with BIRMINGHAM 4 on the side of the cylinder were made up to 1958 after which the 4 was Removed. hi all,
need to make some room in the cabinet, so am testing the water for interest in my webley service air rifle mk2.
this belonged to my grandfather. i used to shoot it with him when i was a young lad.
manufactured from 1929 to around 1936, they were used as a cost effective method to teach soldiers the basics & principles of shooting, before then progressing on to the .303 enfield. my grandfather was observer corps in ww2, and i can only surmise from his familiarity with the rifle that he may well have been issued one for training.
it’s in pretty good condition, and comes complete with the .22 and .25 calibre interchangeable barrels. the serial numbers on the rifle & .25 barrel are matching, and i’ve even got some of the .25 pellets left!
the .22 barrel doesn’t have any serial number. unfortunately i never found the .177 barrel.
not desperate to sell, as it still has sentimental value, but on advice & research i’ll set an initial guide price of £850. happy to discuss sensible offers.
happy with cash / bacs / paypal (friends&family payment). would prefer face to face handover if possible.
thanks
